Configure Server: Domains

Use the Domains tab to configure or modify domain information for the Oracle Names server’s local administrative region, a collection of Oracle Names servers in one or more domains. Use this tab only if this Oracle Names server is not in the root region.

Domains are logical groups of machines and network services. Within each domain all names must be unique, but across domains simple unqualified names can be repeated. The Oracle Names server will be authoritative on service locations in this domain. That is, it will be the definitive source of information on services in this domain.

See the Net8 Administrator’s Guide for further information about domains.

Domain Name:

Enter any valid domain name in the Domain Name field provided in the Domains text box. Examples of domains are acme.com or us.oracle.com.

Minimum TTL:

Enter a time value in the Minimum TTL (time-to-live) fields. Minimum TTL is how long information the information that an Oracle Names server forwards to Oracle Names server about your domain remains valid. After this period expires, foreign Oracle Names servers have to request the data again from your Oracle Names server if they receive another request for it. The default for this is 1 day (86400 seconds), but if you are anticipating that your domain will have frequent changes in services, you may want to lower this value. If your services in your domain will remain virtually constant, you may want to increase this value to decrease network traffic to your Oracle Names server.
