The Oracle Names tab allow you to configure how clients will use Oracle Names servers:
| Default Domain:
| Specify the name of the domain name space within which most client request
take place. It could be the domain where the client resides, or it could be a
domain from which the client requests network services often.
When set, the domain name will automatically be appended to any unqualified name in a connection request. No domain is specified by default. |
| Maximum Wait Each Attempt:
| Specify a value between 1-600 second for how long a client will wait for a
response from an Oracle Names server before reiterating the request to the next
Oracle Names server.
|
| Attempts per Names Server:
| Specify between 1-5 for how many times a client will try each Oracle Names
server before allowing the operation to fail. Oracle Names will try each server
once by default.
|
| Maximum Open Connections:
| Specify a value between 3-64 for how many connections an Oracle Names client
may have open at one time to an Oracle Names server.
Oracle Names will calculate a number of connections acceptable for most installations by default. The only time you would want to change this parameter is if this client is an Oracle Names server itself. In that case, the local Oracle Names server would be acting as a client and opening connections to other Oracle Names servers to resolve requests from other clients. Then you would want to increase this value. Otherwise, the default works fine for virtually all networks. |
| Initial Preallocated Requests:
| Specify a value between 3-256 to pre-allocate an initial number of messages in
the client's message pool. These messages may be used for future requests to
Oracle Names servers. Oracle Names will pre-allocate 10 messages by default.
The only time you would want to change this parameter is if this client is an Oracle Names server on an overburdened network (one that does not have enough oracle Names servers). Otherwise, the default value should work fine. |
