Abstract In the past two decades, the role of IS (information systems) organizations has gradually shifted from technique provider to service provider. IS organizations are required not only to provide reliable systems but also excellent services to the user departments. As the role of IS organization changes, so do the IS professionals. The most significant change for IS professionals is the increase of cross-functional activities. IS professionals often have to interact with individuals outside the IS organization, in some cases, even individuals in other organizations (e.g, EDI systems). It is believed that this transformation has significant impacts on IS professionals' mental status. A recent survey by Computerworld magazine found that 63 percent of IS professionals feel stress in their job. Several studies also indicated that stress is an emerging problem for IS professionals. The purpose of the study is to investigate the potential effects of interpersonal relations on IS professionals' stress level. (12 References). Subject Headings Health hazards. Human factors.
