A gentle introduction to SGML.
This is a nice, easy to read introduction, that is very useful for learning how SGML works and how to understand the Document Type Definition (DTD) files.

9.2 HTML (all versions)

NCSA's Beginner's HTML Guide
This guide is somewhat out of date, but still serves as a useful and brief introduction to HTML.
Nathan Torkington's guide to HTML
This short document is a nice introduction to the HTML languages and the issues behind designing HTML documents. It does not go into details.
HTML2.0 Public Text
This is the definitive on-line definition of HTML2.0, the current standard language. If you want all the gory details, this is the place.
HTML Specification Review Materials
A collection of review materials on HTML, and in particular on HTML2.0. There are several useful pointers.
HTML Review .
This gives a useful introduction to HTML1.0, HTML2.0 and HTML3.0.
HTML 3.0 Test Document .
This document collection contains a description of HTML3.0 features, and includes withing the documents examples of HTML3.0 tagging. Note that these document will not display well unless you are using the ARENA test browser for HTML3.0
CERN HTML+ Draft.
This document collection is somewhat out of date, but it still gives a good flavour for the upcoming HTML3.0 language specifications.
CERN HTML Draft (out of date).
This draft is old and out of date, but it give a good feel for the issued discussed prior to establishing the HTML2.0 draft specifications.

This contains a draft of the proposed HTML3.0 DTD, as of 19-Jan-95. This draft is constantly under revision.

This CERN document is the definitive definition of the HTTP protocol.
This gives an overview of the NCSA HTTP1.3 server operation, as well as installation and configuration information.

This useful document describes the structure of the URL syntax, and how URLs are constructed for the different protocols.

9.6 CGI SPECIFICATIONS

NCSA CGI Interface Specification
This document discusses the CGI specification, and is the definitive resource for understanding CGI and gateway programming.

9.7 NCSA IMAGEMAP RESOURCES

NCSA Image ISMAP Image Mapping utility
This document discusses, with examples, how the NCSA image map utility works.
The new NCSA Imagemap program.
The new imagemap program is much more versatile than the original version distributed with the NCSA HTTP1.3 server. The above URL describes the advantages of the new program, and provides directions to the source code.
