The Database tab allows you to configure or modify region database information. A region database consists of tables in an Oracle database that stores Oracle Names information. A region database does not necessarily have its own database engine, nor is the data stored somewhere separate from any other data. A region database is merely a collection of tables with Oracle Names information that can exist within a larger database. It can be managed by a database instance that is also managing other data.
Storing your Oracle Names information in a database is recommended to ensure the reliability of information replicated between Names Servers.
Note: If you used the is Names Wizard and choose Use a region database when creating an Oracle Names server, the database information is already entered.
No Region Database:
Select this option if you want service registration data replicated continuously among Oracle Names servers.
Region Database:
Select this option if you want service registration data stored in an Oracle database. Enter the information below as appropriate:
| Protocol:
| From the drop-down list, select the protocol for the listener address.
Depending on the protocol chosen, enter information in the fields as appropriate. The region database
is not an Oracle Names server. It is a regular database with a listener, and,
therefore, does not usually use the special Oracle Names server port 1575.
|
| SID:.
| Enter the system ID (SID) of the database
|
| Service Type:
| Specify whether the session will use a dedicated server or multi-threaded
server. Since there are users other than Oracle Names server trying to connect to
the region database (this database probably is used for more than just Oracle
Names server), you may want to choose shared processes if the region database is
using a multi-threaded server. This will decrease overall network traffic.
|
| User:
| Enter a database user name of the database. This is the user name that the
Oracle Names server uses when talking to the region database.
|
| Password:
| Enter the password for the user name.
